FAQ

Can I enter my own custom food items into the database?
Absolutely. After you sign up for your free account, you can upgrade to add custom food items. CHECK HERE

I sent you a message but it isn't showing up. Where is it?
It sometimes takes a minute or two for your account to update.

If it's been much longer than that, double check that you sent your text or email to "belly@ihadwhat.com".

Last, if you're sending via text message make sure you included the correct phone number and carrier in your profile. CHECK HERE

My food/drink is showing up, but there isn't any nutrition info for it. Why not?
If there's no nutrition info showing up, then we couldn't find a match for it in our database. Double check your spelling or look for an alternate in our food database...or upgrade your account and add your own custom item.

I found an error in my belly-brain, how do I edit it?
Click the pencil icon next to the item and make your correction. You can also delete an item by clicking the red "X" icon.

I created a calorie limit notification, but I never got notified.
Log into your account and make sure all the items you sent were found either in our database or your custom items. If we don't find matches for what you sent, we can't track your daily calorie total.

Where'd you get those food stats?
Almost exclusively from the USDA, but a few from popular restaurant nutrition guides or specific food makers.

How did you come up with portion sizes?
Again, almost exclusively from the USDA -- they use a lot of standard portion sizes. For example, most of the meats come in 3oz increments.

But whenever possible we try to use easy to understand portion sizes like "1 SLICE" of bread, "12OZ" for coke, or "1 APPLE" for apple, etc.

But what if my steak was 12oz?
All you have to do is put a multiplier in front of your item.
So, a 12oz steak would be "4 steak :)"

How many foods do I have to choose from?
Currently about 1000 foods and drinks but it's growing all the time based on user feedback.

Why don't you guys have 40,000 foods like those other sites?
One of our main goals is to condense those ridiculously long lists into more core type foods that people eat every day. So, instead of going blind trying to figure out if you did in fact have "Beef, short loin, porterhouse steak, separable lean and fat, trimmed to 1/4" fat, select, cooked, broiled" all you have to say is "porterhouse steak".

Doesn't that seem easier?

Do you have all the name brands in there?
Mostly no. If you had a beer, just enter "beer". A light beer? "light beer". It's that easy.

How do I know if my favorite food or drink is in the database?
Let your mouse do the clicking to our convenient database search page. RIGHT HERE

But I have to count my calories VERY accurately!
Not a problem. That's exactly why we have the custom food option -- so you can add in all your very specific personal favorites.

How do I keep my email signature from getting sent along with my food/drink items?
Add a ":)" (aka. the smile emoticon) to the end of your message.

How do I keep those ads from my free email account from getting sent along with my food/drink items?
See above -- Add a ":)" (aka. the smile emoticon) to the end of your message.

Why do I have to say "note:" at the start of a note?
That's so we know it's a note and not something you ate or drank.

Seriously, belly-brain?
Oh, we thought you liked that....you don't think it's even a little bit catchy? Well, we think it's genius and we're holding strong to that belief!

What does belly-brain even mean?
Imagine if your belly could analyze everything you had and tell exactly what it was all made of -- it would almost be like your belly had a brain. A belly-brain. See? Genius.

If you like it so much why didn't you just call the site belly-brain?
We considered it, but someone already has the site "bellybrain.com" (we have "belly-brain.com" though so don't even try it), and we also think "ihadwhat" is easier to understand and remember. Maybe.

Well, if people can remember Google can't they remember belly-brain?
We don't want to talk about it any more.
